The Society of Aikido Centers (SAC) was founded by
Lynn Fabia (6th degree black belt) in 2002.
The SAC currently has affiliate schools throughout the United States, with its headquarters located in Dallas, Texas.
The Society of Aikido Centers is unique in its instruction of traditional Japanese self-defense and the integration of life concepts for Aikido of the future. The traditional classes cover the principles of redirection, neutralization, and centering along with traditional weapons training. All classes combined, focus on balance and dynamic movement with an emphasis on intent and fluidity.
Aikido of the future is the martial art of life-the art of managing energy. As we explore this powerful concept together, you will learn there are many adversaries in life and not all are physical. Some are mental, and spiritual, while others can be emotional. Through Aikido you can connect body, mind and spirit by understanding how vibration and energy interact. Concepts are taught which will allow you to handle real life situations which are direct, diplomatic, and effective. The concept of centering when practiced in this manner can take you to a place in your mind and spirit which can change your life forever.
SAC's intent is to learn the art of Aikido from the physical, mental and spiritual levels. For many, Aikido is an unending source of self-awareness. The fluidity and freedom of movement are factors that distinguish Aikido from other martial arts, while the intent behind the movements is non-aggressive and non-violent. Some describe Aikido as a moving meditation, and each movement becomes a purification of the spirit.
"In ages past, the way of martial arts was a tool used to kill and conquer. Yet when it was all said and done, such a way was misguided and led to self-destrucion. Aikido, however, is (the way of) harmony, it is a manifestation of the fundamental vast spirit of the universe. Without understanding this spirit it is impossible to progress in Aikido and (practicing it) has no meaning. By fostering this spirit, Aikido also becomes a method for self-defense, as well as, a regimen to maintain health and beauty." - Words of the Founder, Morihei Ueshiba
Morihei Ueshiba founded Aikido in the mid-1920 s with elements of judo, jujitsu and the samurai arts, although this art goes beyond physical technique.
